
Under the title of
Soulgrafts, Onofre Frías conceives a setting integrated by the record of his recent
aesthetical concerns. The Sofía Imber Museum of Contemporary Art provides the adequate
space to arrange assemblages and paintings of various formats that constitute the work's
integral design.
The
first attempt to approach this proposition leads us to a generic premise: contemporary
reality can only be understood through three fundamental prefixes: "RE",
"POLI", and "META". In fact, the complexity of current events is
determined, in a meaningful proportion, by reiteration, restating, reinvention,
revitalization, reorganization , redefining...finally, by the continuous hegemony of the
syllable "RE", which is quitting to be an accidental prefix to become a paradigm
of a strong and all-embracing presence. At the same time it is necessary to accept the
omnipresent and determining presence of the prefix "POLI". There is no
phenomenon or circumstance that can be explained from the reductive perspective of the
one-determined.
Everything comes from the concurrence of a series of factors that mingle and
intermingle among themselves in an entwined thicket of factors. Everything is
polidetermined and can be understood aside from the plurality of causes that are
conjugated under complexity's shelter. But the comprehensive guidelines do not get
exhausted with the outlined paradigms. There is still other dimension without which it is
impossible to guarantee an insight approach to the current surroundings. We are talking
about the prefix "META" that, of course, has become also a paradigm. No event
exhausted itself in the manifestations, formal and observable, of its own presence. The
circumstances and phenomena are not restricted either to the appearances or to the record
of their appearances. There is a beyond, a behind, a "in the bottom" that
surpasses the exclusively retinal, measurable and tangible data.
